Recorded live in various venues throughout the summer of 2008 in venues across Iowa, Montana, South Dakota, and Idaho. "Live Music is Best" captures the intimacy of Max's performances. Touring constantly leaves little time and money to record in a proper studio. This album is a snapshot of the pubs, bars, and parties that make Max one of the hardest working musicians on the road today. The record features several ancient Irish drinking songs. "Whiskey in the Jar" is rarely played with such gusto. Previously unreleased original songs, "A Heavy Wait" and "Poke a Hole in the Lid" feature a rare guest appearance by former band-mate, Reuben Vold, on backing vocals and Djembe. Originally released in 2004, Max's first full length album features mad overdubs and interesting arrangements. Every instrument is played and every song is written and by Max Hay. The record features the song, "Freeman," a fantasy tale of an escaped convict running from a ganja-induced prison sentence. The song, "Pant's Poo'd," is (arguably) Max's only hit to date. Through psychedelic arrangements and a demented story, It's sure to leave a stain on any listener's memory.
